Large compressed video
In rare cases, the compressed video file may be larger than the original video file. This is due to how video compression works.
Like all other video apps, Compresso uses lossy compression to reduce the size of the video file.
How compression works
Modern video compression is a toolbox of complex techniques, e.g.
- Removing unnecessary frames:
- Reducing quality in similar areas: Lowering the quality in parts of the video where details aren’t noticeable.
- Compressing color information: Reducing color data in places where it’s less likely to be noticed by the human eye.
- Predicting motion: Guessing where objects will move and storing only the changes.
- Splitting the video into blocks: Breaking the video into small sections to make compression more efficient.
You can’t drink a beer twice
In other words, if you’ve already thrown away unnecessary frames and the other techniques above, you simply can’t do it again. You can’t drink a beer twice.
