Frame rate

Smooth motion
for
File size & speed
When do I need it?
- For action scenes, keep the framerate if smooth motion is important.
- For tutorials or presentations, lower the framerate to reduce file size and speed up rendering.
- For design showcases, keep the framerate if you’re showcasing animations.
Example
It’s tempting to conclude that a 30 fps video will be half the size of a 60 fps video. After all, 30 fps is less than half of 60 fps. That is however not the case. Let’s see an example:
A screen recording of 42 seconds at 2500 pixels wide, original size: 114.2 MB
- 60 fps (standard) with standard settings: 21.5 MB
- 30 fps with standard settings: 17.5 MB - 18% smaller
- 24 fps with standard settings: 16.4 MB - 24% smaller
As you can see, reducing 60 fps to 30 fps only saves 18% of the file size. This is because of how compression works. If the frames are similar, the compressor can use smarter algorithms to save space while keeping the video smooth.
